Adam's stocks a wide range of saltwater
testing kits to help you track and diagnose problems with your tank.
One clue to bad quality is excessive algae growth,
tracking down the cause is much easier after a quick water quality
test.
Water Quality -- Fish Only Tanks
(fresh and saltwater tanks)
Track pH, alkalinity, ammonia, nitrate and nitrite levels to
keep the environment healthy for your fish. Adam's stocks a
full range or chemical and biological treatments when you do find a
problem.
Water Quality -- Fish & Reef Tanks
Having coral also means you need to track calcium, magnesium,
strontium and iodine levels.
Salinity
Natural seawater is packed with salt in concentrations of 1.021
to 1.025. Grab a hydrometer or refractometer to test the
salinity and specific gravity in your tank and to maintain that
level as you perform weekly/monthly water changes.
Temperature
To keep fish and coral happy you need to maintain a stable
temperature in your tank (78-82 degrees). Check it daily
with an assortment of thermometers at Adam's.
